Alora has been summoned for a progress talk. Her behaviour in recent months has been far from satisfactory and if allowed to continue unchecked could lead to her getting herself into deeper and deeper trouble. Ms Stern feels that a severe punishment may well be just help Alora to readjust and get back on the right track. She suggests 12 hard strokes of the heaviest tawse on the hands. Alora is quite fearful as this is such a fearsome implement, but she knows deep down that she needs to feel the heat and sting of this wicked implement. After the first 12 strokes are roughly applied Alora is asked to undress and take 12 more. Her poor hands are bruised and sore.
